I'm at work. It's a Saturday. I have an hour and a half left. And so, I thought I would write, About what, I really don't know yet. Let's see...
I joined this program recently, HHMI (Howard Hughes Medical Institute). It's an undergraduate reserch program that introduces students to the real science world, and it's just what I've been needing. My mentor, Mike, is a toxicologist of sorts who's looking into the Lubbock area water for contaminants. He does alot more than that, of course, but that's the project he pitched at me. It's actually interesting, because he wasn't my first pick--he was close, but I chose someone else. I still sort of wish I had gotten this other project having to do with breast cancer treatment, but they gave it to someone else apparently. It looked fascinating and cutting edge, not what I was originally going for, but such an opportunity! Still, I am content with what I was given. He actually wants me to start right away, about a month before the other scholars. There is a conference in November called the CTAK that he wants me to attend. He has a project waiting for me and everything! I am a little overwhelmed by the hurried beginning, but I think it will be for the best. Also, apperently I can only work 30 hours a week during the summer. I was really hoping for 40, and now I'm thinking about a possible part time job. But where? Doing what? Honestly, anything not having to do with dusty old books and a copier would be just fine with me. Something fun, perhaps? I'll have to do some research.
You're probably wondering why I would want two jobs, and the fact is that I want a new computer. BIG, i know! Kind of an unecessary desire, it's just that my computer is so slow it's driving me crazy, I can't do anything except write on microsoft word or it goes nuts. Evan found this HP website that let's you build your own computer, and it's awesomely cheap. I'm excited about it.
I want my current job to end. NOW.

How exciting. It's awesome that Mike wants to send you to SETAC. If he wants you to get after stuff now, it's because he wants you to present a poster, not just go. The deadline for presenting is in the spring. Have fun!
