Poor Milo and Otis

This past Sunday Evan and I watched one of his childhood favorites, "The Adventures of Milo and Otis." I had expected a cute, heart-warming, fuzzy film about a puppy and a kitten, but oh it was so much more than that! It is a Japanese film narrated by a British man, and somehow the combination was just right. The Japanese must not have the sort of regulations America has for the treatment of animals, because they literally put those animals through the worst. They filmed the kitten in a box floating down the river, then down a waterfall. The cat looked utterly petrified, and meanwhile there's this jovial British man going on about what an adventure Milo was having. Then poor Milo gets attacked by seagulls while the man says solemnly that there was only one thing left for Milo to do...and the next frame is this cat soaring off a cliff!! Into the swirling ocean! I couldn't stop laughing, it was so so unexpected. And that poor dog (a pug) gets (I'm sure) thrown into the river with a bear and looks like it's about to completely drown as this smallish bear thrashes around on top of him. The dog is then left in a blizzard, visibly freezing in the snow for who knows how long. The film apparently took four years to film. It's five dollars at Target; I would almost recommend that you see it, it's just that crazy. Hah!
